A tripartite deal has been signed between the governments of Rwanda, Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by which the launch of construction works for a $700 million joint hydropower project has been given the greenlight.
The project, RusiziIII, is expected to generate up to 230 MW, with a total estimated cost to range between $644 and $700 million, according to Rwanda's infrastructure ministry.
The deals was signed in Kinshasa on monday this week. It should boost energy deficits in the three member states says Rwanda's minister of infrastructure Amb. Claver Gatete.
